Default 98SE will not wake up

New symptom after years of working ok.
Screen Save settings set to turn of monitor
after 20 mins, turn odd hard disks NEVER.

After several hours alone pc is locked tight
and will not awake to any key strokes.

Big Red Switch time.

Why is that?

Is your keyboard connector USB? Your mouse connector?

Does using a PS2 mouse or keyboard resolve the issue?

Neither is USB. And as I said, it's a brand new problem.
Have changed nothing on the system in months.

Set the screensaver to None, and see if the problem still occurs.
