Default startup error after update

anyone got any ideas on this...
twice now I've installed microsoft updates (through auto
update facility) and following the restart the PC will not
complete loading, leaving the PC hanging with the desktop
loaded but no input through the keyboard or mouse (arrow
cursor plus hour glass).

I've had to restart in safe mode and use system restore to
get control back.

does any one know what's going on?

Yours hopefully,
Philip

Philip.

Which updates? After successfully booting to Safe Mode did you try again
to boot to Normal Mode or did you proceed straight to using system restore
and rolling back your system? If not then if it happens again try doing
so as sometimes a system seems to stick whilst booting but after having
completed a boot to Safe Mode will then continue to boot normally without
further problems. Why? I don't really know but it could be to do with
the changes that are taking place on completion of the update.

Okay,
*yes I am running Nortons Virus shield and;
*no I didn't try rebooting to normal mode. I will try that
next time, though I've never experienced this phenomenon
before?

Many thanks so far,

Philip

Next time try disabling/uninstalling Norton applications while installing
ANY system Updates - Norton has a very bad history of destroying Windows
Updates!
