Default 100 mhz sdram memory

Can I use 100 mhz memory in a machine that uses 133 mhz?

I want to run a test on my system, but I don't have enough 133mhz memory. I
have 512 mb of 100 mhz memory that I can use if it will work.

It SHOULD work. However, the second stick MIGHT be limited. MOST RAM in that
category will support 66/100/133 to support diferent FSB speeds. Toss it in
and see. It will probably work just fine. Do keep in mind that if you go
above the 512 MB RAM mark with ME you'll run into some issues though they're
fairly easy to fix.

N.B. All installed memory will run at the slowest speed of any installed
module.
Timing issues may prevent the different modules from interoperating.
Simple testing will quickly resolve the question.

I want to see how well the system will run with 512mb (in preparation for
upgrading to XP)

If I understand you correctly I should take out the 133mhz and fill the
slots with the 100mhz so there is no conflict between the 2 speeds?

Your 133 MHz memory hopefully will fall back to 100 MHz to cooperate with
the memory of that speed.
If you appear to have problems, remove it to test.
Watch the POST screen to see how much memory is recognized by the BIOS at
startup.

It might be worth using Everest HE (freeware) -
http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en - to try a 'comparative'
benchmark test, to see the effects of placing the different combinations of
RAM chips.

'Benchmark' is menu item available as a (fairly basic) memory speed testing
utility.
