Active Desktop
I have a few .jpg that insist on enabling active desktop in order to display
as background. Ive posted before regarding this and Mike suggested to convert them into bmp. That worked alright, now, however, the files themselves are 96 x 72. I loose quality of the images when trying to enlarge for background. Also, what type of file is this that is specific to active desktop? Could I just convert that type jpg file to a jgp image for the background. Thanks. |

ANY filetype except bmp will require Active Desktop.
You need to convert your JPG files to bmp with a higher pixel-count (the option should be there in your editing program - what did you use?) it sounds like you created a thumbnail image, rather than a proper conversion. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Sean" wrote in message ... Noel, I used Sonys Picture Gear 5.0.
When I try to convert to larger image I loose quality. |

You're doing something wrong..... (or the original picture size is too
small) Open the jpg file - what does the Properties option in Picture Gear tell you is the size of the picture? Then use File | Save As.... to save the file as a bmp - what size is the file then - open it in Paint, and see. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Sean" wrote in message ... If the jpg image I am converting works in active desktop ... not sure why the
conversion to bmp would reduce to thumbnail. Any event, I know Im not doing something right. Thank you for your assistance. |

Use a graphics utility such as Irfan View, ACDC or your fave heavyweight pixel-chaser to SaveAs your JPEG as .BMP Or (as I discovered a week or so ago when I converted my bitmap wallpapers *back* to jpegs as the dir was getting so big) Wallpaper Changer will use jpegs without invoking ActiveDesktop. While I use it to change the wallpaper at every Startup, it doesn't have to *change* it and doesn't need to run *except* when changing, so presumably can be used to overcome the problem. I've had this program changing my wallpaper daily in ME and XP (also in 98se and NT 4.0 when I was running those) for about 2 years now without issues. It works better in XP than the MS powertoy of that ilk. If anyone wants to use this, go to the beta page at http://www.wallpaperchanger.de/ and get the appropriate daily builds (from 28-07-2002) for the most stable and XP-stable builds. Shane |
