Uncalled for name-calling, What you say reflects more It reflects the fact that you haven't read what I've already posted on this subject. That solution is not needed - because there is no problem. It's a perfectly good solution if one doesn't care to install flash, or if flash is giving problems. A solution is not needed because there is no problem. If you are running Win-98 with Flash 8 or 9 installed, and you visit youtube.com and are greeted with "your browser no longer supported" message, you simply click on the X in the upper right-corner of the message window to dismiss the message, and then you simply play the desired video. The video will play normally, with no issues. That is why there is no need for a solution, because there is really no problem. Do you now understand? If you are running Firefox 2.0.0.20, you will get that bogus warning message. You can download a firefox add-on that changes your browser identifier to make youtuhe think you are using version Firefox version 3, and you will not get that message. Youtube is posting the annoying message not because of the version of flash that you have. It's posting the message because it sees that you're using IE6 or FireFox 2.x. One exception: Youtube videos no longer play if you're running flash version 7. But there's no reason to be using that version with win-98. You can use flash version 9. |

Do you now understand? Not everyone wants to run flash. And that is no problem, when you know alternative ways exist to achieve your goal. If you are running Firefox 2.0.0.20, you will get that bogus warning message. You can download a firefox add-on that changes your browser identifier to make youtuhe think you are using version Firefox version 3, and you will not get that message. I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.20 and have never seen the bogus warnig. Likely because I don't have Flash installed at all. Youtube is posting the annoying message not because of the version of flash that you have. It's posting the message because it sees that you're using IE6 or FireFox 2.x. I have no flash version at all installed. No annoying waqrnings in sight. One exception: Youtube videos no longer play if you're running flash version 7. Yeah, or just download the videos and play them from your own PC. -- http://rr.www.cistron.nl/ -!- http://www.rr.dds.nl/ http://www.dread.demon.nl/ |

Why you would ever want to visit youtube.com without having flash installed is bizarre. Not everyone wants to run flash. Then they shouldn't complain when the go to youtube.com and wonder why they can't view any videos. Yeah, or just download the videos and play them from your own PC. Or just install flash and watch them faster, with fewer mouse-clicks or additional proceedures. |

Rasta Robert wrote: There's more than one way to Rome. The direct way, and the stupid way I suppose. yeah right, which way is the preferred way and which will be concidered the 'stupid way' will differ depending who you ask, their specific system configuration and internet connection specs. Do you think there's just one way that's best for all, and mentioning other ways should not be done...? I do think more choice is better, and people can decide for themselves which way suits them best. Why else would there be so many different text editors, browsers, image viewers, audio/media players, operating systems etc? I'm quite sure there are plenty people who will regard still running windows 98 to be stupid, stubborn, being stuck in the past, etcetera. If you want to be stubborn or irrational and not install flash (for what-ever cocamame reason you think is rational) then that's your problem. No problem here at all, actually. It's not irrational to concider it better when people are aware of several alternatives and when each can make their own choices and/or try out what suits them best. Why you would ever want to visit youtube.com without having flash installed is bizarre. I guess because I want to watch some of the videos on youtube... Which, as I explained already a few times, is NO PROBLEM to get working. So that's rather non-bizarre, and however fond I may be of the bizarre, visiting/watching youtube without having Flash installed doesn't qualify. Not everyone wants to run flash. Then they shouldn't complain when the go to youtube.com and wonder why they can't view any videos. Try to think out of the box sometimes. One size not allways fits all. Yeah, or just download the videos and play them from your own PC. Or just install flash and watch them faster, with fewer mouse-clicks or additional proceedures. Yeah but then it's a bit more complicated procedure if you want to keep the video on your own HD, like finding the files in cache. On slower machines and slower internet connections dowloading the videos avoids buffering and stalling of the video when it doesn't come in fast enough to keep up with playing. So some people will prefer your way, of installing flash and modifying their browser's agent string, and for others it will be preferrable to leave flash out of the equation and to download the videos and play them from harddisk. -- http://rr.www.cistron.nl/ -!- http://www.rr.dds.nl/ http://www.dread.demon.nl/ |
