CSRSS.exe
On start up I get messages telling me that my pc cannot find the file CSRSS.exe
I say ok, then get a message saying cannot load or run CSRSS.exe specified in the WIN.INI file. This happened after McAfee security system said it found a suspicious script in C:|WINDOWS\SYSTEM\xotywxgis\csrss.exe and deleted it. How can I get this file back? Thanks |

How can I get this | file back? Thanks Get the file back ? Do you like viruses ? That's what most likely you had. You don't want it back ! You may still have a remant. Use the following tool to correct the error and make sure the PC is clean. Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL -- http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe To use this utility, perform the following... Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS } Choose; Unzip Choose; Close Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS } NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files. C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS} This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode. This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site. The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC. You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode. When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm * * * Please report back your results * * * -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm |

CSRSS.exe
Boot to Safe Mode? (Hold F5 as you boot to get there, or hold CTRL for
the Startup Menu.) Then... "START button, Run, SysEdit". Bring Win.ini to the front & search for "csrss.exe". Put a semi-colon ( in front of the line(s) that contain it. If you cannot boot to Safe Mode, then do it in DOS (Command Prompt Only, of the Startup Menu)... ATTRIB C:\Windows\Win.ini -H -S -R EDIT C:\Windows\Win.ini Alt-F-X-ENTER (pressed separately) will exit EDIT, after offering to save changes if any. (TAB may prove helpful to navigate buttons.) If you can now boot to Windows Normal Mode, do as AlmostBob or Lipman said. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "midimod" wrote in message ... | On start up I get messages telling me that my pc cannot find the file CSRSS.exe | | I say ok, then get a message saying cannot load or run CSRSS.exe specified | in the WIN.INI file. | | This happened after McAfee security system said it found a suspicious script | in C:|WINDOWS\SYSTEM\xotywxgis\csrss.exe and deleted it. put finger to keyboard and composed: On start up I get messages telling me that my pc cannot find the file CSRSS.exe I say ok, then get a message saying cannot load or run CSRSS.exe specified in the WIN.INI file. This happened after McAfee security system said it found a suspicious script in C:|WINDOWS\SYSTEM\xotywxgis\csrss.exe and deleted it. How can I get this file back? Thanks Edit your win.ini file and remove, or comment out, the reference to csrss.exe. You can do this with a text editor such as Notepad, or you could use sysedit.exe, in which case you would look for a line beginning with "load=" or "run=" and delete it, or prefix it with a semicolon to disable it. You could also use msconfig.exe to stop the offending program from being called at bootup. -- Franc Zabkar Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |
