Deleting Windows/Temp files
I have a number of files in sub-folders in my Windows/Temp
folder on my C drive. Running Disk Cleanup does not seem to eliminate them, especially a large number in a sub- folder labeled Am. Can the sub-folders in this Temp folder be all deleted manually without consequence? Thanks |

Deleting Windows/Temp files
As a matter of principle, I would want to know what's making those files.
But, generally, files that are in the TEMP folder are safe to delete immediately after a fresh restart of your machine. The restart is to ensure that no reprogramming or reconfiguration changes that have been scheduled for startup remain in limbo from the current Windows session, since many of these kinds of procedures rely on TEMP files to complete their tasks. Certain files will be undeletable unless you have first disable the background program that's created them from running. As for determining what is creating the files, perhaps it's easiest to *Copy* the existing ones to a new folder, then watch carefully to see what gets created right after startup, what gets created when you run your favorite apps, etc. -- Gary S. You're welcome. And yes, once you're clear on where those files came from,
you can delete that copied folder. One word of additional caution. I always suggest that people think about their situation before deleting TEMP files, particularly if it is subsequent to some crash or other problem. In some cases, this is where apps save "timed backup" files, and they may be all that's remaining of your work after a crash. Worse yet, they may not be recognizable as such from their names. Only by using the application's backup recovery function do you realize what those files were. Second, many crash "debug" logs are stored here, and if you or a support tech intend to figure out what's going wrong with some app, these may prove invaluable. -- Gary S.
