Default Memory question

My computer is an IBM PC 300PL Win 98se os, 500 mhrtz pIII processor
with 576 mb ram. It has 3 memory slots. It came with 2 64mb sticks of
memory. I bought 2 256 sticks. I have put 64, 256, 256 respectively
into slots 1, 2 and 3. When I boot up memory checks out ok. When I
test my memory using Norton System Works 2001 I get an error at such
and such an address. I have switched sticks thinking that maybe I have
a bad stick. The error message continues with a varying address. I
have put the sticks in slot one by themselves by themselves and they
all check out ok, no error message. I noticed on the sticker under the
cover of the computer it show a maximun of 384 mb or memory for this
machine using 3 128 sticks. It also shows variations of the sticks
using 64 o32 or 128. My question is: Is this something I should be
concerned about? It seems that my systems crashes more than it should.
Would this memory error be the reason? Should I get 3 sticks of 128
each and put them in like it is on the sticker? I just hate to spend
extra money on this if it is not necessary.

If the label on the machine says that it only supports 384 mb RAM
total and a maximum module size of 128 mb then you should probably
believe that.

There are apparently quite a number of difference versions of the IBM
PC 300PL - some with Pentium II CPUs and some with Pentium III. There
should be an additional 4 digit model designation number for your
machine, such as 6565, 6862, or 6892 and there may also be an
alphanumeric suffic to the model number.

You can check out detailed RAM specs for your exact model at either
www.crucial.com or www.kingston.com

Good luck

Also,
I beleive that Windows systems up until 2000/XP will tell
you that you do not have enough memory if you have more
than 512mb. There is a workaround, but I forgot where I
found it. Search around the KB or other support websites.
