Default Clean Install of ME

I want to do a clean install of ME over '98. I tried reformatting the C:
Drive as per Article ID 221829, and then Article ID 66706, but when I try
format c: /s I get a message saying that Windows doesn't support this type of
formatting any more and I need to make a startup disk, which I obviously have
otherwise I wouldn't be here. Can you tell me in plain English how to do a
clean install of ME from a CD onto a hard disk starting from scratch. Thanks.

Find out what kind of hard disk you have.

Go to the HD's manufacturer's web site.

Download the FLOPPY (not the CDROM) formatting tools there and put them on a
floppy. Some require two floppies.

Turn your computer off. Complete shut down.

Turn it on with the HD's floppy in place.

Follow the instructions to format and partition your hard disk once the
floppies load. You probably only need a quick format. Once done with
formatting and partitioning, reboot using Ctrl/Alt/Del and hit Del or
whatever your BIOS requires like F1 and change the boot sequence to the
CDROM first in the BIOS and put Win Me in the CDROM. Save and exit and Me
should start installing. When done, set the boot order back in the BIOS.

Good luck.

Forget about /S. This is not only unnecessary if you are installing Win
Me but also unsupported by Win Me's Format command.

Therefore all you need do is use FORMAT C: and then run setup from the Win
Me CD.

See also the file CLEANHD.TXT which is in the Win 9x folder on the Win Me
CD and also as KB271673 - "Windows Millennium Edition Cleanhd.txt File
contents" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=271673). See also KB255867 -
"How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition
a Hard Disk" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=255867).
