modem replacement
My friend has an old Micron MPC Pro Q pc running Win 98. He's on dialup
ISP. His modem quit the other day, and we're trying to put a replacement in. Once we physically get the new one in, is it as simple as going through the "add hardware" Win 98 routine to finish the install (plus running any supplied software, if any is included)? Once the pc recognizes the modem, that's all we'll have to do, isn't it? The email account remains as it was, so that's taken care of. Anything else? |

Yes -- so long as the modem is Win98-compatible. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

modem replacement
Depending on the state of the system you will probably need to access the
dial-up connectoid and tell Windows to use the new modem for that connection. Windows allows multiple modems to be installed and any one of them can be associated with a particular connection - it does not typically update the connection just because you install a new one. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "RB" wrote in message ... Anything else? 1. remove old modem ...boot to safe mode and remove refences to it...shut down 2. install new modem ... boot up and win98 should detect and ask for drivers. 3. when you dial for the first time , it will probably give you an error "modem doesn't exist" , you will have to select the new modem for the dialup to use.. done : |
