Default Documents saved to floppy gone missing, where to?!

(Also in XP section in error, sorry). Docs being saved to floppy, 2nd disk
used for 2nd batch. 1st disk put back in and message appeared 'disk not
formatted would you like to format'. Yes selected. Disk had 14 documents
on, cut and paste from the My Docs folder. Recycle bin empty, and docs can't
be traced anywhere. If they haven't been deleted are they sitting somewhere
that I can't find them? help gratefully received thank you!

If you formatted the disk the files were on, then they're gone. Floppies are
not good places to store things long term. They age and frequently go bad,
or get scrambled. Sometimes formatting makes them useful again, sometimes it
doesn't help. But any files on the disk get wiped during a format.

Though the data is now gone on the floppy
the originals are still in My Docs unless you've deleted them from there
too...
if that's the case, you'll need an undelete utility.
stop using the machine *at once*

If you used cut and paste the files have been deleted from the hard drive.
It's possible in theory to recover them from the hard drive, but it's
unlikely if the disk has been used much since the copy, as Windows will
probably have overwritten them.

However, they might still be on the floppy. Some types of format delete the
files, others don't. There's no reliable way to predict whether or not the
files are still there, but it's worth investigating.

Note that the message about 'Disk not formatted' means that the system had a
problem reading the floppy. This could mean that the original copy did not
work properly (in which case the files might not even be on the floppy), or
it could mean there will be a problem accessing the floppy to recover the
files.

The Unformat DOS command is probably not useful, but may be worth trying.

Google on floppy disk file recovery or similar to get an idea of utilities
that are available.

Here's an example.
http://www.top-shareware.net/unformat.html
http://www.sharewareconnection.com/r...loppy-disk.htm

Check any utility carefully before using it. You should also write-protect
the floppy immediately to prevent any further loss of data. Some will allow
you to see whether the files are there or not, before you purchase.
