Window ME step by step interactive setup' cant stop it intalling

I found this post in this area and i am having the same problems.


During bootup and after all normal porgrams load the system
opens the 'MS Window ME step by step interactive setup'
program. I've tried to install then remove, I've tried to
install and reboot but this install program runs everytime
the system is started or restarted. I've checked the
startup folder the Win.ini and looked at regedit in the
run, run once, etc folders but could not find the program
that is launching this install program. Any ideas on what
to do? Thanks

I have followed all the suggested replys, checked my startup in
msconfig and cant locate what is causing the proplem. Now getting very
frustrated. Has anyone managed to solve this problem successfully.

Please help

What happens if you let it run to its conclusion? Does it start again
when you next reboot the system?

yes, i tried to install it and even use it in the hope that it would
activate it. However, the next time i logged on the install program
launched again and there i was back at where i started.

Are you getting any error messages during the boot process?
Are you running Norton software?
