For Noel and Mike.
Hello Noel and Mike,
This post prompted me to ask: http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?p=3101008 The person posting began the thread. It is good to know the Facts about something. I am happy to know you are still monitoring what seems like a very quiet forum. Best wishes and thanks. Ben. |

The user's main problem in that thread is an old, and common one - and
nothing to do with the atmuni fix. Good on you, Noel.
It's time you let off a few bangers. Cheers. "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... The user's main problem in that thread is an old, and common one - and nothing to do with the atmuni fix. Unfortunately, funds don't allow me to purchase enough bangers to obliterate
Norton from the face of the earth - otherwise I'd be tempted! g -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Ben B" seafarerathushmail.com wrote in message ... Ben,
jr6300 ought to learn to use the KB correctly. "Here's an interesting item from the MS Knowledge Base dated October 18, 2005, but it appears they want you to beg & possibly pay for it............. http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;278368" First point, that "patch", which of course has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the problem reported in that thread, has been available since 2000, NOT October 18 2005, which was the date when the article was last reviewed and, secondly and far more important, such hotfixes are and always have been free provided the user can show they are experiencing the problem fixed by the patch. Prior to 18 Oct 2005, the article had been revised on 17 Dec 2004 and before that on ...... and first posted in the fall of 2000. I actually have a copy of the article as at February 23, 2001 in my archive and which varies very little from the current article other than that it is called Q287368, Microsoft not dropping the Q until a couple of years later. -- Mike Maltby Ben B seafarerathushmail.com wrote: Good on you, Noel. Hello Mike,
For the detail my thanks. Your archive must be a treasure house. My petty store is a totally unorganised mess - save for two folders. One named Mike M and one MSNGs. All the best, Mike. Ben. It happens that I've got a load of old KB articles saved from when Win Me was launched (Aug 2000 through into 2001) which I used when answering posts and before I had broadband in March 2001 and was still on dial-up. Now of course I just look up the KB articles on-line as and when I want but it seems that I never got round to deleting the articles I had saved back then. My goodness, there are over 350 of them back they only take up just over 5MB so I suspect they will be around for a bit yet. :-) It looks as if the folder they are in has simply been one that has been carried forward from machine to machine when upgrading. Cheers, -- Mike |
