Default Need help with upgrade

If I upgrade my Windows ME system to Windows XP Will my computer run slower?
My system specification is
30gb hard drive
866 Mhz
256 DRAM
256kb L2 cache- 133 system bus
3D AGP graphics
Pentium 3 processor

I have got the Windows XP home edition installation disk, but was wondering
whether my computer would run slower if I installed it.

Also, if I want to upgrade, do I just put the setup disk in and run the
installation file, or do I have to uninstall Windows ME first?

Another thing I want to ask is that after I have upgraded, how do I update
my Master Restore CD so that when I want to totally reboot my computer,
Windows XP installs and not ME?

Any suggestions much appreciated,
Regards

These are questions much better asked in one of the XP newsgroups such as
windowsxp.newusers or perhaps windowsxp.setup_deployment.

Will your PC run slower? Possibly as the "footprint" of XP is greater
than that of Win Me and I feel your PC would probably benefit from having
a bit more RAM.

You don't mention the specifics of the XP Home CD you have such as whether
it is an upgrade version. Regardless of the answer you can upgrade your
current system by inserting the CD and following the prompts or clean
install although in the latter case, if the XP CD is an upgrade CD, you
will be asked to insert the installation CD for a qualifying product such
as that for Win Me during the XP installation to prove your entitlement to
be using an upgrade CD. Note however that in this case a Win Me recovery
CD is unlikely to be sufficient in which case you will probably be
restricted to making to installing XP as an upgrade.

Master Record CD. This is something that will have been supplied with
your PC by the manufacturer (OEM). Such CDs cannot normally be upgraded
but you might want to contact the manufacturer of your computer and see if
they will be prepared to let you have an XP recovery CD.
