Default Right Click Menu Disappeared

Experimenting with Ad-Aware, my right-click function for the desktop went
'out of order'.
I can do without, but would like to restore it, if possible. The question is
'how'?
My post in the IE browser ng hasn't found any takers yet.

Harry.

Harry, how long have you been visiting the WinMe NG's?

I can only suspect that you've forgotten to try System Restore, otherwise
you would have told us - wouldn't you?

Err.. Unless it's not working!

SR is only one of the things I've already tried with no joy, I might add.
This was my 'last resort', Mart.
Hope you are not going to tell me to 'start from scratch'.
I could probably live without it, but have no way to check my desktop
features, included in the menu. Even 'Mr. Google' wasn't given me any clues.
When I un- and reinstalled Ad-Aware this happened and in connection with the
Recycle Bin. I still have have all the desktop icons, but am unable to hide
them, the way I am used to, because of the right-click failure.

Before you get all involved in fixing this, have you tried either using
another mouse, or reinstalling the mouse software.....assuming your
mouse has software?? It could be just a faulty mouse. Can't see where
uninstalling AdAware would cause that.

Also do a search for keyboard commands. There has to be one for "right
mouse clicking". Mac Users do NOT have a right click, but they also use
a heck of a lot of keyboard commands!!

On second thought, do NOT do the search for the keyboard commands. You
won't understand them and then you will screw yourself up more than you
already have......

Shift + F10 is the keyboard equivalent to 'right click'......and, Shift +
right click gives an alternate subset menu.

And another useful utility to test the mouse is the Mouse icon Control
Panel. It even lets you swap left and right buttons.

But am inclined to agree with Heather and Heirloom, can't see where
uninstalling AdAware would cause that. Sure you haven't done anything
else? - Try a bit further back with SR. First substitute your mouse. Does
the Right button work elsewhere? Is it only on the Desktop that it doesn't?
For example :-
"No Shortcut Menu Is Displayed When You Right-Click the Taskbar"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263615/en-us

BUT!!!!

and in connection with the
Recycle Bin.

Oh dear! - Something else you're not telling us Harry? System files
perhaps? Shudder!!!

You could try TweakUI's "repair" feature to fix system files, etc. You
could also try SCANREG with the /fix option via the msdos prompt on the
start menu.

Jean,

*IF* and I repeat *if*, Harry can't repair it using System Restore (which by
its very nature ASS-U-MEs restoring a previously 'good' registry) sadly,
it's unlikely that scanreg /fix or TweakUI's "repair" feature will help.

I worry more so about Harry's casual reference to his Recycle Bin - or his
presumably now *empty*?? Recycle Bin. Just wonder if he'd dropped a couple
of .dll's or something else important in there.

Mart
