Default My system opens on windows XP then readjust twice

Good morning: I have a IBM 1842STU, the system came without office. I had a
Compaq 2000 and they sent me a Windows 2000 DVD to load if I needed to reboot
the compaq. I loaded the Win 2000 on my laptop and so when the computer start
up, it opens on windows then the system changes to larger icons and then
readjust to the regular XP setting. Can this be corrected or do I have to
remove the win 2000 office. Desperate please help cause its driveing me
bunkers. Thanks for your help what ever it may be.

You are posting this question in the Windows ME group and not a Windows XP
group, also your post is not that clear about what you have and what you
had done.

Are you talking about Windows 2000 operating system or Microsoft Office
2000, as at the beginning of your post you say you needed Windows 2000 to
reboot the Compaq which is nothing to do with the program Office.

Have a look here and try again so people will be able to help you better.

Why didn't you continue the thread you started in the
microsoft.public.windowsme.setup newsgroup? You asked for advice and were
asked some questions. If you had replied to that thread rather than
loading the DVD you might not be having the problems you are now
experiencing.

Hi Joan, Thanks for your responce: here is the real proble. My system uses
Windows XP but it did not come with Office; My previous system was an Compaq
2000,I got a disk and a CD for reboot: This CD is Windows but set for Compaq
and what I did was load the CD to my current system to use the Office thats
included on the CD. Now I see they are two different systems, and would like
to refrase my original question. Is it possible to extract the MS/office
from this CD and load it to my current system? Here is a list of the package
on the CD. MSOFFS9 (D, IES, MSI, PFILES, SP, SQL, SYSTEM, SYSTEM 95,
SYSTEM NT,WINDOWS, SETUP.EXE, SETUPSE.EXE, SQLWRAP.EXE. On the other hand I
own a Windows XP upgrade original CD: Which of these if any can I get the MS
Office from?,or cant I and if I can how can I do it? if its legal to do
so.Please explain and I hope I have now cleared up the matter. I eagerly
await your responce, Thanks

Hi Mike: Sorry about that. Partly I sort of understand what the problem
is,but I dont know how to resolve it. The windows DVD 2000 came with a boot
disk from HP for my Compaq 2000 and I loaded it to my current XP system
ecause I forgot it was for boot purposes; but I used it for the Office part.
I now understand its two dfferent systems. Here is the package on the
Windows 2000 DVD. MSOFFS9 (D, IES, MSI, PFILES, SP, SQL, SYSTEM, SYSTEM
95, SYSTEMNT, WINDOWS, SETUP.EXE, SETUPSE.EXE, SQLWRAP.EXE: Is there anyway
I can just load the office to my system from the CD?if so How?, I also have
a WINDOWS XP upgrade that I bought to use on the Compaq before it crashed.
Can I get the office from this CD? if so how? and if its legal since I own
the CD? Please explain cause I am a novice. I eagerly await your responce:
Thanks.

Default My system opens on windows XP then readjust twice

Microsoft Office is an APPLICATION,
Windows 2000 and Windows XP are OPERATING SYSTEMS.
Applications run on operating systems which need to be installed before
any application can be installed.
A Windows XP Upgrade CD is used to upgrade an older qualifying operating
system to XP (either Home or Pro) but not to install applications. The
Windows XP Upgrade does not contain Microsoft Office.

A PC only runs one operating system at a time unless one has chosen to
what is called "multi-boot" in which cases two or more operating systems
might be installed, usually on separate partitions, and which used chosen
at boot time via a boot manager.

Ownership of a CD sadly means little when it comes to using the software
on the CD which you will have licensed rather than bought. The subject is
a bit complicated but basically there are two sorts of licenses, namely
OEM and retail. OEM software, which is heavily discounted, is software
that is usually supplied with a PC when first bought and in the case of
Microsoft operating systems and applications tied to the hardware with
which it was supplied. Retail software, which costs considerably more,
has no such restriction on use and can be moved from PC to PC provided
that it is only installed on one PC at a time (there are some exceptions
to this, for example there are some Office versions that allow for two
installs, one on a desktop and the other on a laptop).

I'm sorry but I consider it highly unlikely that you can extract the
Microsoft Office installation files from the Windows 2000 DVD that you
have and use them to install Microsoft Office on your current system that
is running XP.

What you "might" be able to do is use the DVD you have to install Windows
200 and Microsoft Office on your current PC and then upgrade the operating
system to XP using the XP upgrade that you have. Note that to do this you
would first have to format the system partition on your current system so
it would be essential to first make a backup of all of your important data
and files before attempting this.

Please Note however that this newsgroup and the
microsoft.public.windowsme.setup newsgroup to which you posted earlier are
to support those running the Microsoft Windows Millennium (Win Me)
operating system and not either Windows 2000 or Windows XP which are two
significantly different operating system.
