Default What to use to extract audio from youtube videos

I'd better qualify that statement below before I get into trouble.
By "mono-compatible" below, I meant fairly mono-compatible. Obviously it
will never be as pure as the original mono file. :-) So yes, it's
probably best to keep the original source files around too.

Is that a mono file? If so, that's cheating :-)

It started out mono. When people use 32 kbps on radio postings it's
used for
older mono stuff. Even the minimalists who don't care much about
artifacts aren't forcing below around 56k for stereo so I think it's a
fair test.

I forgot to clarify something here. 32 kbps for mono radio broadcasts
is probably ok even in mp3 format, so we agree there. But don't any
of those enthusiasts like to add some stereo presence to the broadcasts,
using a good plug-in? It really makes a nice difference, when you're
wearing a headset. And when you do that, you of course need joint
stereo. And at 32 kbps without much artifacting, that's a real
challenge, to put it mildly.

Actually I think the best way is NOT to add those effects to the
encoding.
This is a thing best done on playback, leaving the original mono file
small
and clean. This is why many modern amplifiers come with effects built in.
Personally I can't be doing with it but it is at least logical.

Put it another way: what are you going to do if you find a better effect,
or just want to change it?

The PSP pseudostereo effect I use is fairly mono-compatible, unlike some
others. It's the one at this site:

http://www.pspaudioware.com/

What I mean by that is that you can reconvert it back to mono with minimal
artifacting. And I've done the A/B listening tests in real time (by
simply
pushing the mono button on my amp), and the results are still pretty good.

N.B: a few pseudostereo plug-ins have this capability, and a few do not
(and
those may give a somewhat fuller stereo sound, but at the expense of not
being pretty mono-compatible) One like Elevayta's Wide Boy Pro.
