Default virus/firewall protection

Hello,
I am STILL running Windows 98SE and have been using NORTON INTERNET
SECURITY. So far without too many hitches.......but it is time for a new
subscription and curious whether anyone out there has any other positive
suggestions???

IMHO

1. Uninstall NIS via Add/Remove Programs.

2. Run the Norton Removal Tool (Win98/WinME version):
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039

3. Install ANY reliable anti-virus application OTHER THAN Norton AntiVirus
or McAfee VirusScan. I do not recommend AVG Anti-Virus (Free or Pro).

4. Install a firewall that's _supported in Win98_ (e.g.,
http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost/download.php).

I still run 98SE as well !! Not to long back I was turned on to AVG 7.5 , I'm
totally won over by it's performance . After purchasing mine @ $39.00 at
Fry's Electronics a short time ago , I was just told (and it's true) you can
download it for free @ download.com . Enter Antivirus under search , scroll
down to select your operat. syst. , then click where it says liscenses and
click free , then click filter . Scroll down to different options and bingo ,
click AVG 7.5 and download away .

Definitely off topic but while you're out of your cave, I presume you are
fielding VISTA issues in your forums on AumHa?
Any specific links [specialty/specific or otherwise]?
Or web html [perhaps with a technical approach]?

You don't need to get it from download.com or anywhere else other than the source.
Grisoft's AVG Free Edition is available directly from Grisoft:

Kerio Personal Firewall v.2.5.1

This one is free for personal use, it seems to have it all, & hasn't
crashed yet. But I'm STILL learning what to do with it! I'm getting
close, though!

Thanks Pa, I will check these [of course in another nomenclature].

I suppose one of the primary reasons for the querry, is the NEW NTFS
structure which is essentially incompatible with the XP version, and the
handling of those issues and other related installation and OS issues.

Thanks for the links..

Now I suppose I should question the reason for your honored opinion related
to not installing AVG, so that issue can be addressed and any related issues
can be brought to light.
