I tried to hookup a scanner to my printer everytime I try to startup my computer this message appears. CONFLICT I/O PORTS : 2F8
Scanner no longer hooked up. How do I fix.
The computer freezes will only run in safe mode.
No good to me.
Please advise how to fix or restore original settings.

In Safe Mode, delete both Parallel ports and reboot. Windows 98 should
re-detect them at next start-up.

The standard hardware port construct of a PC is

2 Serial
1 Parallel
1 Game

The standard configuration of the SERIAL Ports is

COM1: 03F8h IRQ 4
COM2: 02F8h IRQ 3
COM3: 03E8h IRQ 4
COM4: 02E8h IRQ 3

How did you physically connect the computer,

What software did you install to support this configuration?

Hi Hugh, I connected the printer to the scanner then scanner to the computer. I had the scanport disk for the scanner. I started this morning and almost had it.
got to my sign in screen, signed in then it started to install the ports but froze when it was installing printer port. Close but no cigar. I'm going to try a reboot.
should I turn on the printer or leave it off? Thx for your assistance.

That's right. The scanner has a pass-through for the printer.

Leave it on. Leave the Scanner on also.

Thx for your assistance.
