Default Strange Windows 98SE behavior

Defragging always seemed to change the file attributes on my computer.
I'd have to go in and manually restore the View attributes to "View as
Webpage" and "Details." Annoying, but I figured that was Win98.

Now there's something new. After the most recent defrag, whenever the
Save or Open dialog boxes appear, folders and filenames are arranged by
DATE, when it should be by NAME. I can right-click to correct it, but
it's back to DATE the very next time.

Something's screwy. Can someone here tell me why Windows 98SE *insists*
on arranging by date? How and where do I fix this?

Your advice much appreciated,
JPM
