USB drives & Win98
I have Windows 98 SE. I can plug a USB drive into my PC and use
it fine. My question is: Since there is no utility to "Stop" the drive before I take it out, am I risking messing up the drive by just pulling it out of the USB port when the PC is on? Should I shut the PC down first? Thanks, Alan |

It is OK if nothing is writing to it but I use another method.
I keep a shortcut to my USB drive in the Quick Launch Bar in Win98 and I right-click it and select "Eject" and when I see the light go out it is safe to remove. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On 28 Jan 2006 18:20:14 -0800, "Alan" wrote: I have Windows 98 SE. OK, thanks. I was wondering if Eject did anything.

Thanks, Alan Some USB systems even install a systray icon that allows you to disconnect (device) safely I have an external USB hard drive from FreeCom, and this installs the tool, but I am sure there must be a generic 'disconnector' out there. |
