!$!$!$!$.mp2 folder
I have a folder in my c:\Program Files folder called
!$!$!$!$.mp2, and it has the following files: EXCHNG32.EXE LAPRXY.DLL LOGAGENT.EXE MAPIRPC.REG MAPIWM.TPL MLSET32.EXE MLSHEXT.DLL MPLAYER2.EXE NEWPROF.EXE SCANPST.EXE These are old programs. The latest date on any of them is 4/23/99. I'm assuming this is not malware, but I"m wondering if it's something I'm still using? I don't see it listed in my installed programs, but it could be under a different name. My main concern is the folder name. It looks like it was designed to not be deleted, and I've seen that before with some malware programs. Thanks, Margaret |

Rename this folder with prefix X i.e. X$!$!$!$.mp2 (after a DOS boot if Windows will not rename it.) Then reboot and load Windows. 2. / start / run / REGEDIT.EXE and search for the string $!$!$!$ If no legitimate process calls anything in this folder, you can probably delete it (e.g. if you have replaced MPLAYER2 with something more modern.) 3. If you get error messages (file not found because the folder has been renamed) these may tell you something. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

Rename the folder as Don suggests and if you have no issue with apps you
should be able to delete it. All of the files appear to be related to Outlook and "Microsoft Fax and Windows Messaging". -- Brian A.
