floppy issues

S very recently, i was going through some of my floppies and all of a sudden,

S here are some weird things that maybe can help diagnose the problem:

S amidst my problems, i got the "disk not formatted" message. so, i would
S format it and the format would go through. i could then copy files to it
S like normal. however, at a later point, the disk would not read again, and
S i'd reformat it, it would work fine, and then the same problem occurred.

S any suggestions? i'm assuming something is out of kilter and it's not a
S physical problem with the floppy drive since both drives had the same
S problem.

Are you waiting for the light (LED) to go off before ejecting a
floppy? If you try to remove the floppy too soon from the drive the
drive's mechanism may not be retracted fully, causing an alignment
problem. An out-of-alignment floppy will read fine in the drive it
was formatted on (or possibly in your case at the time the alignments
lined up).
