Default Windows ME - How to FORCE Valid Password Logon

I have searched the Google newsgoup archives and the Windows support site.

Not having much luck.

I have seen several things on how to "disable and get rid of the logon
prompt".

But, I WANT the logon prompt and I DON'T want the ability to just hit cancel
and be able to logon.

Here is what I have done so far...
- Created 2 users, 1 for Dad and 1 for Kids.
- When using these accounts, the password is enforced.

But, if no account is chosen, and you click on cancel, it lets you logon
anyway!
- Not good!

Windows ME is like that! Logon and password is only meant
for desktop appearance and settings, not for security.

If you want to FORCE a valid logon, you'll need Win2000,
or WinXP.

Good luck,
BarryG.

....it's not just ME - but the whole Win9x series. They were all designed for
the home user, and it was assumed that the security in the home would be the
owner/users watchful eye.

There IS a way to force a valid logon - but once logged on, then there's
nothing to stop the user then viewing any file on the system (unlike in
XP/2K, where it's possible to set security options to limit the user to
their own files and/or applications).
The Windows Registry Guide provides a range of registry tweaks for Windows,
including the prevention of "cancel" at logon. http://www.winguides.com/
It will not secure the computer, but can be a deterrent to unsavvy computer
users.

One alternative is to use a BIOS password - without which the PC cannot be
booted (without recourse to hardware remediation)

Good suggestion. The web site below had a well documented method (registry
edit).

I will try it tomorrow (or Saturday) and post back how it went.

Thanks!
