Default conexant modem problem

Hi, I hope someone can advise me. Windows update tells me that conexant hsfmodemwdm driver version 3.05.20.00 is available. I have msp 3880-w 56K pci modem enumerator. I tried to download the conexant once, and it appeared succesful. Afterwards I could not go onto the internet. I assume I am supposed to install it or something, but can find no details. I had to do system restore to get rid of it and be able to go onto the internet. I have ME. Is there anything I should be doing, (and will it actually make any difference anyway). I am reluctant to try again until I know that it will all work without all that hassle again. Thanks, Gary

Gary,

Personally I would continue with your existing modem drivers and forget about
those available from the Windows Update site, especially so if you have no
problems with your existing drivers and the problems those from the Windows
Update site appear to cause.

Personally I rarely if ever install drivers offered me by the Windows Update
site preferring, when required, to obtain them from the respective hardware
manufacturer's websites.

General concensus is not to use Windows Update for hardware drivers, but
go to the euipment or system manufacturer's website and use their driver
updates.
