You can change in manually in Regedit or follow the procedure below: Make up a file from the lines below. Copy into a file called fix.reg which should be created in Notepad. Do not retype, copy in case of errors. The 1st line in the file is the line REGEDIT4 Make sure your mail or news reader does not add any spaces to the end of a line. The last line must be blank. Change "whatever" to the name you want Change "Private" to your organization (keep the quotes) Right-click and select Merge to merge it in the Registry. -----copy below this line fix.reg------------ REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion] "RegisteredOwner"="whatever" "RegisteredOrganization"="Private" ---- end file above here ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.com/index.htm On Sat, 16 May 2009 15:26:01 -0700, in microsoft.public.win98.setup, biganchor wrote: I received a computer from my friend with Window 98 SE. The registered owner is recorded in the registry. Use Registry Editor to
change the RegisteredOrganization and RegisteredOwner values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986 If you are talking about some other place where a username is recorded, then please advise the specific place that you are seeing it. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "biganchor" wrote in message ...
