May I ask what you expect to uninstall to? What do you expect to see after
you uninstall Win Me?

You can only uninstall an operating system if you 1) Upgraded to that
operating system from a previous operating system, 2) Chose to retain the
files belonging to that previous operating system when you upgraded, and 3)
Have not subsequently deleted those saved files (from 2) perhaps in an attempt
to recover space on your hard disk. Are all 1, 2 and 3 true? If not you
cannot uninstall Win Me.

You don't mention what you are attempting to do. Do you intend installing
another operating system or reinstalling Win Me (I suspect those "people" you
spoke know little about operating systems). If you wish to install another
operating system you need to format your hard disk and to do this you need to
boot to DOS using a floppy and then format your hard disk, or at least the
drive containing Win Me, by using FORMAT Win Me drive: from the DOS prompt.

Regards,

if poster upgraded to win me, presumably can revert to previous win by
going to control panel, add/remove programs.
in pull down list is: "uninstall win.. mill.."
i have no idea of any caveats to doing so. :-)

Such caveats include (from my post):
The uninstall option will only be available if the user 2) Chose to retain
the
files belonging to that previous operating system when they upgraded, and 3)
Have not subsequently deleted those saved files (from 2) perhaps in an attempt
to recover space on their hard disk.

Also, of course, all programs and updates to programs installed since the
system was updated to Win Me will be lost.
