DVD Player
I have Windows 98 and somehow lost my DVD player. I have Windows 98 but am
unable to find it on my CD. Also, I got an error message that says since I have a newer version (updates) than the CD the CD has been disabled. When I try to play a DVD it says, "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in My Computer by clicking View and then clicking Folder Options." I did this associating it with "Micro DVD Player" which I downloaded off of the internet but it will not associate at all with any program I use. Could you tell me how to download Windows DVD Player and tell me how to make it work or what other free program I can use that works with Windows 98 and how to make the association work? I know how to do associations under Folder Options but it just isn't working. Thank you so much. I have tried everything I can think of. -- In His Service, Debra A. Snipes www.In-His-Service.org |

Windows 98 does not include a functional DVD player. I believe there's an
icon but it won't work unless a third-party DVD decoder is installed, which means a program that will play DVDs. So to make the Windows DVD player work, you need to install a complete DVD player anyway. Yep, catch-22 but there it is. ;-) -- Richard G. All you need to play DVD movies on DVD discs in Win98SE is an actual physical
DVD-ROM drive, and Media Player Classic for Win98/ME: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...r_win98_me.cfm -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "DEBNC" wrote in message ... I have Windows 98, not SE and the updates. Doesn't that make it SE? I have an
actual DVD-ROM and Media Player 9. Will that work? What do I need to do? -- In His Service, Debra A. DVD Player
Forgive me....it will work with 98 also. You don't need 98SE. (In fact, IIRC I
used it with Win95B also). That's all you need. To use Media Player 9 you still need to install a third-party software player (PowerDVD, WinDVD) in order to get the needed codecs etc. One of those usually come on CD with a new retail drive, but if you do not have one, just use MPC that I linked. It will play commercial DVD discs or ripped .vob files, just like WMP and the other players, and it's free. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "DEBNC" wrote in message news I have Windows 98, not SE and the updates.
