Default Help copying Defrag to PC

Can someone help me please? I seem to have lost my defrag, disk clean,
notepad and drive converter programs from my PC somehow. I am running
WIN98. How can I go about copying them from another PC to this one? I
tried going thru the start menu and sending the icons on each to a floppy,
but that didnt seem to work. Thanks.

Run sfc.exe and select the "extract one file..." option. Type in the
complete name of the missing file you want to restore or use the browse
button for a file replacement. Click start and in the resulting window,
browse to the location of the folder containing the W98 .cab files (either
the hard drive or CDRom drive). If the information in the "save in" box is
wrong, use the browse button to show where the file is to be restored to.
Click OK and if appropriate, on the resulting screen, show the location
where the file being replaced is to be backed up to. Click OK or skip as
appropriate. Restart your computer and the file replacement will occur
during the boot process.

If you are going to use sfc.exe for other than the extract option, I highly
recommend that you first read the article he

No, that wouldn't. Those are only shortcuts. If you have your Win 98
installation CD or have the CAB files stored on your hard drive, you can
extract new copies of those files using the System File Checker.
Go to Run, type in "sfc" and pick the option to restore one file. Type
the filename in... like "notepad.exe" and where you want to extract it to.
In that case it would be "C:\windows" I *think* all the files you mentioned
would go into the c:\windows folder. Next it'll ask you where to extract
them from. There will probably be a default entry in that box. If it says
"D:\win98" (if D is your CD drive) then the cab files likely aren't on your
hard drive and you'll need to insert your Windows CD. If the CAB files ARE
on your hard drive, they'll likely be in "c:\windows\options\cabs". However
they could be in a different folder if they were copied manually. Do a
search of your hard drive for *.cab. If you find a whole slew of them named
"WIN98_xx.CAB", then wherever they are is where you extract from. There's a
whole slew of CAB files (74 in SE) so they should be easy to spot. If
they're not on your hard drive and you don't have the CD, then you're out
of luck.
You could even copy them from the windows folder of the one machine to a
floppy and then from the floppy to the windows folder of the other.
Notepad.exe and Defrag.exe will fit on a floppy just fine. Not sure about
the others.

Sorry about that. I'll go bug another newsgroup... :-)
