Default Using Firefox 8 and latest Flash player in win98

I just installed the latest Kernal-Ex version. It says in the text
notes that it will run Firefox 8. Has anyone tried this? Will it run
FF 4 or 5? I'd like to go beyond FF 3.x, which always had bugs, but
dont really need to go to version 8. Also will it run the newest
version of Flash player?

I'd appreciate if this message could get a simple reply answering the
questions, without starting any flame wars, or drifting off topic. I do
appreciate all help on this group, but it seems that everything turns
into a flame war and gets so many unrelated replies that it's hard to
find the actual answer in a flood of useless replies. Thanks

What bugs are you referring to in FF 3.x? That's as far as I've gone, and
I think it's far enough. :-) (version 3.5.8, which avoids the java hassle
of 3.6 and above, although that too can be resolved)

Actually I'd stick with FF 3.x but the main bug is that it goes into
offline mode for no reason. Annoying as hell.....
I understand this was fixed in later versions.

Another bug is where when I load tabs, other browsers will add the
newest one always to the right. FF will stick the new tab in the middle
or anywhere it wants to. This is real frustrating when for example I
load lets say 5 youtube pages. And lets say that all of them are from
the band, the Beatles. So, I wait for the videos to download, then I
watch them. But with "stick the tab anywhere", I often dont remember
which ones I saw and which are still loading. This is frustrating.
I dont know if that was fixed.

For the purpose of avoiding bloat, I'd prefer to NOT go to version 8. I
hate bloatware and understand that the newer versions of FF are just
that. But I'd sure like to go up at least one version with the hope
these bugs are removed. Ver 4.x or 5.x would be a good compromise.

but dont really need to go to version 8. Also will it run the newest

Well, some of this was already commented on by 98Guy, and his tweaks, in one
of the other posts this and last week. Did you see it? Also, did you
check out the KernelEx wiki web page, which talks about the compatibilities?

No, what thread are you referring to?
No again, what is the URL?

That's mentioned - with a fix - in the KernelEx URL I posted below (look for
the Mozilla Firefox section there).

Another bug is where when I load tabs, other browsers will add the
newest one always to the right. FF will stick the new tab in the middle
or anywhere it wants to. This is real frustrating when for example I

I don't know either.
Can you move the tabs over (swap positions) by dragging them? I recall
doing something like this in some cases just to get them in the order I
want, as it can get confusing.

For the purpose of avoiding bloat, I'd prefer to NOT go to version 8. I
hate bloatware and understand that the newer versions of FF are just

That's the way I feel too. And not JUST about FF, either. :-)

But I'd sure like to go up at least one version with the hope

I agree too, though it always remains possible that FF in their questionable
wisdom might decide to strip out some bloat and go with some late great
stability. So it would be useful to know if v8 will run on W98 in any form at
all.. Currently only Opera can be expected to work with late versions, and
not all of those, and they aren't testing beyond basic load-and-run tests.
