MS-DOS Questions
Hi:
I have two questions related to MS-DOS as follows: 1. What command do I type at the C Prompt to exit MS-DOS in Win98? I have tried the following and could not exit it: Exit, Close, End, Quit, and ESC. I finally had to turn the power off to get out of MS-DOS. 2. Can I use MS-DOS to uninstall Webroot's program called Spy Sweeper and if so can you provide me with the Command line that I would need to uninstall it? It has an "uninss000.exe" file listed as an Application in the Spy Sweeper folder. Also here is the program string: C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper. Thanks and any help with the above questions will greatly be appreciated. |

MS-DOS Questions
1) How you exit MS-DOS depends upon how you got there.
If you are in a DOS *window* while still running Windows, you type EXIT and press Enter. If you clicked Start Shutdown Restart in MS-DOS Mode, you type EXIT and press Enter. If you booted to an A:\ Prompt using a boot floppy, or if you used the boot menu to choose Command Prompt Only, you exit by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart. If you started a DOS program while in *any* of those forms of DOS, you need to use the specific command for exiting that program first, then use the appropriate method as mentioned above, to exit DOS. Some DOS functions can be cancelled mid-process, by pressing Ctrl+Break, then DOS can be exited by the appropriate method as mentioned above. 2) Uninstall SpySweeper from within Windows, using its entry in Control Panel Add\Remove Programs. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "ColTom2" wrote in message ... MS-DOS Questions
I cannot get a good boot, therefore I cannot access Windows at this point to
delete the Spy Sweeper program. My question is can I uninstall Spy Sweeper using MS-DOS with the info that I originally posted? I know how to uninstall if I have Windows running with my desktop. However, you can rename the Spy Sweeper folder, making it impossible for windows to find the program at bootup. At the command line type: rename C:\Progra~1\Webroot\SpySwe~1 NoSpy reboot. Hopely you can boot to windows now. Rename the folder back, and use the uninstaller. |

MS-DOS Questions
I suggest you use Ingeborg's method of renaming the folder, as it is highly unlikely
that the uninstaller will run correctly, if at all, from a DOS boot. What makes you think that Spysweeper is related to your inability to start Windows? -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "ColTom2" wrote in message ...
