Default Floppy Disc Failed

Hello,
A friend of mine is having trouble starting his computer.
It keeps coming up "FLOPPY DISC FAILED" and will not come
up. Does anyone know what this might be or what to do
about it?
Thank you,
Pam

May the floppy drive is dead. Disable it in BIOS and try again.

Is that the exact wording or is it more like "Non system disk error"? =
Is there a disk in the drive? Please be a bit more specific on when the =
error occurs and what the exact error is.

Usually there is an error code supplied with the error like:

Floppy Fail (40)

Please get an exact quote of the error message - it's important.
