2 questions
1. Is it true that if you download files to a floppy disk
at a public library that you won't get spyware when you open the file on your home computer? 2. If you download a file from the internet to a 3 1/2 floppy and the file has a virus can you just format the floppy and get rid of the virus, making the floppy safe and useable again? Thank you, Angela |

If there is spyware embedded in the program you downloaded, then it will infect your computer when you run the program. The medium on which that program is stored doesn't matter. 2. If you download a file from the internet to a 3 1/2 floppy and the file has a virus can you just format the floppy and get rid of the virus, making the floppy safe and useable again? That should work. -- Tim Slattery MS MVP(DTS) |

... 1. Is it true that if you download files to a floppy disk at a public library that you won't get spyware when you open the file on your home computer? That would depend on what type of files and where you download them from. If they are from the internet then you are still vulnerable. If they contain a new unknow/undetected nasty you are still vulnerable. If you're not using your own machine that you know the level of security involved then it's a crap shoot. 2. If you download a file from the internet to a 3 1/2 floppy and the file has a virus can you just format the floppy and get rid of the virus, making the floppy safe and useable again? It could be formatted for use again with hopes it did'nt already compromise the machine the disk was used in. -- Brian A. Conflicts start where information lacks. http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm |

If you want to be sure that a virus is removed from a floppy be sure to do a
full format - a quick format is not good enough. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Angela" wrote in message ... 1.
