Default WindowsME

Can anyone of u guys tell me if i will lose all my files
& data if i reinstall windows me on my lap top - have had
a viris and need to reinstall . carnt access normal start
up backup - and not sure how to back up through dos -
Help will be greatly appreciated

If you are careful, you won't lose any of your data files, but I suggest you
