Default Spybot...

Spybot is constantly being recomended here. I use it.
Thing is... I do not remember anyone mentioning the
advance features of the program. Like "Secure Shredder".
It works well. Just right click in the open, right window.
Select add file. Browse for the file you want to get rid
of and double click on it in the browse list. It then is
entered in the shred window. Next, click shred away button
at bottom. It's gone.
Another is "System Internals" Open this. Click check at
the top. This will show programs with missing dlls.
Startup lines that have nothing associated with them;etc.
These are cool tools. And very useful. Plus from what I
have experienced? They work.

The same rules apply to System Internals as to any other Registry
Cleaner--if you aren't already an expert in the Registry and able to
accurately determine the validity of what some Cleaner is reporting and to
assess the validity of the proposed "fix", you should keep your hands off!

Also, while Spybot claims that, "This search is limited to a small number of
important places that we found missing in other registry tools...", I have
to wonder which tools they were referring to. Most of the ones I use check
these places as well.

The Help file for this app is quite limited, as well, not clearly explaining
what happens when you click "Fix", and how to perform a search for
fixes--only experimentation provided those answers. And while it *does*
include a couple of much needed caveats, all in all, this is a redundant
tool in the hands of an expert (who will already have the same detections
built into much more powerful tools), and *very* dangerous in the hands of a
non-expert.

Under "Checks*.*"
5 files 0 folders size is 5 Kb in all.
Nothing comes up on Fixes. Probly because I have it set
not to save them, fixes, to logs.

What do you know of SpyBot's log files, ppoatt? I presume

you have
v.1.3. Do a Find for me-- "Fixes*.*" & "Checks*.*"-- if

that's what they
are still called. How many do you have & how big?

Thanks. Have you run SpyBot only five times? I recall v.1.2 would create
a Checks & a Fixes during each run,-- & one of them was a ton long! (I
guess it was the Fixes.) Did you have to change the Fixes setting
yourself, or did Kolla finally make it the default for it to be off?

I don'r know?
It may be that once every couple of weeks I do a search
for logs and anything that comes up that is not a scandisk
or Windows system log I delete.
Plus I run "SeeknClean" that checks for un-necessary
files/logs and such and deletes them if I order it to.

OK, thanks. And I guess you are OK with only the Checks growing. OK,
bye.
