Default Win98 doesn't power off

Recently my Win98 system just won't power off my thinkpad after the shut
down command. It seems that it is just sitting there, no disk activity but
will only power off if I hit the power button. Anyway I can check to see if
it is waiting for some response or something? Running Norton SystemWorks
didn't find any problem.

Thanks.

There is plenty of shutdown advice he

http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm

I would just go Start = Shut Down = Restart in MS DOS
Mode - and when the C:\ prompt comes up hit the Off
button.

Huh? That procedure is very *specifically* known to cause problems. One should
always use the EXIT command to leave MS-DOS Mode after using "Restart in MS-DOS
Mode". Once the machine has restarted, and before it finishes POST, *then* it's
OK to shut down using the power button--if it will let you do it quickly enough.
