Default Shell Image View Control

The "Choose Program" applet does not display when I right click my mouse on
any
file--images, texts, scripts, programs, apps, etc., on my older IBM desktop
PC from 1999. When I do, I get the following error message:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."
Which program or .dll will work to display the "choose program" applet? I
have a feeling that I need to know the exact Viewer .dll or program file
name. Any suggestions? BTW, I had been using Irfanview, but deleted the
program to allow more disk space, when this problem occured. There are
fragments of Irfanview files I am still deleting from the un-install.
Also, I checked my WindowsXP notebook to compare, and tried using the
shimgvw.dll (Shell Image View Control) in System32, but this older PC I'm
having trouble with came back with the above error message. Also, what is
the correct syntax to use?
What I am trying to do is to open .PNG image files. They no longer open in
Internet
Explorer, but will open locally on my old MGI imaging program if I import
the file first... Odd that they will not open directly, because MGI gives me
an error message when I attempt to do so! FWIW, the "Choose Program" applet
no longer displays on the *shift-right click* command. While we're at it,
whatever happened to good old "QuickView"?
Running:
OS=Windows 2000 Pro, Ver: 5, sp4 (upgraded from Win98se)
All Windows Updates are current. No Spyware, Adware, Worms, Viruses, etc.
It's a clean, mean Couch Potato Machine!
Browser=IE6, sp1
Java VM Version=5.0.3810.0
Hard Drive=10G, with 5.8G free
RAM=188MB, 20% free (Talk about overweight----LOL!)
Processor=Let's not even go there........WAY s--l--o--w.
Thx, Chip618 Zzzzzzzz
