Default Job Name Page Not Wanted

When printing to an HP 4L, I get a page with the following
five lines:
@PJL JOB NAME = "MSJOB 1" (Incremented by each print job
for the boot-up period)
@PJL USTATUS JOB = ON
@PJL USTATUS PAGE = ON
@PJL USTATUS DEVICE = ON
@PJL STATUS TIMED = 0
This occurs on Windows and DOS jobs and may occur on the
first print request in an application, but most of the
time on succeeding print requests in the same application.
It occurs most of the time, but not on every job.
The printer seems to be set up correctly, with no
separator page selected. The problem has been going on for
several months, but I cannot trace it to any event. I am
running Windows98 SE, updates current, on a P3600mhz
desktop.

First try going into your CMOS setup and change the port to ECP from
Standard Bi-directional.

PJL is the printer job language and it should not be printing. When it
does, it's often a communications issue and the lines that are printed are
not recognized as commands to the printer. If the problem was not with the
port configuration, then try a different cable. Try a shorter cable if you
are using a long one. Update your printer driver, etc. Also, delete the
files in your temp and spool folders.

You can delete the files in your temp folder from Start, Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup and you can delete the files in the
Spool folder by following these steps:

Start Windows Explorer.
On the View menu, click Folder Options.
Click the View tab, click Show all files, click to clear the Hide file
extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
Browse to the following location:
C:\Windows\Spool\Printers
On the Edit menu, click Select All.
On the File menu, click Delete.
When the Confirm File Delete message appears, click Yes.
Quit Windows Explorer.
Restart the computer.
