Cannot burn music CDs
Hi,
You MVPs helped me a lot a few months ago. With a new, 2nd CD burner installed, I was unable to burn audio or data CDs. You recommended I uninstall the software for one burner, which I did [my burners a 1) HP; 2) Nero] by uninstalling Nero. With that, I was able to burn data via HP. Not until now have I tried to burn my own original music CDs from CDs I burned on my HP burner (Adaptec software) long before my Nero burner was ever installed. These HP-burned CDs were made thusly: I burned my studio master CDs to the hard drive by pre-recording them as WAVE files (Adaptec software). Then I burned from the hard drive to a CD in my HP burner. It was always perfectly easy. Now (in Adaptec) these same CDs will not even pre-record as WAVE files to the hard drive. It just sits there endlessly, not doing anything, when I click on "pre-record to hard drive as WAVE file." I even tried pre-recording as WAVE files to the hard drive my original studio master CDs & a box pops up saying it can't read the CD without Nero. I don't understand this as these studio masters have never had anything to do with Nero, and before I ever got the 2nd burner (Nero) installed, I could easily pre-record my studio master CDs to the hard drive via Adaptec, then burn CD copies via my HP burner. I've now had to install Nero MediaPlayer just to be able to listen to my CDs, whereas before ever getting the 2nd (Nero) burner, of course, everything was done via Adaptec software. What's happening? Must I install Nero burning software to pre-record my CDs as WAVE files to the hard drive? I'm afraid if I do this, neither burner will work again; see below. When you MVPs helped me before, you explained that when there is a 2nd burner (mine is Nero), you never want to install one of the following: either packet-writing software or the Nero Express software itself (I can't remember & can't find my printouts of your discussion - which is it?). Appreciate your help as my original music CDs I must burn are for submission to a publisher asap. Thanx very much. -- MoreGive |

Pretty standard procedure. Making audio to wave format, then to CDA format
for later type music CDs. The earlier audio CDs were all in wave format. Most Cd player will play these. Less music can be placed on pure wave CD. So, you can guess why they went to CDA. -- Jonny "moregive" wrote in message ... Hi, You MVPs helped me a lot a few months ago. Cannot burn music CDs
Thanx! - your advice to uninstall/reinstall Adaptec helped by prompting me to
try uninstalling/reinstalling BOTH programs again - but - due to one problem which remained from the last time MVPs helped me resume burning data CDs, I've ended up switching over to Nero for music burning. At that time when MVPs got me up and running again by advising to have only one burning software program, I deleted Nero and used Adaptec ever since for data burning and all was grand - but I was unable to uninstall an "Ahead" folder (Nero is made by Ahead) containing 2 Nero folders (one folder with a file named "xcname" and one folder named "NeroMediaPlayer" with no files in it), as it did not even appear in the add/remove programs. It appeared in Windows Explorer, and I tried deleting it from there. It looked like it got deleted, but when I went back into Windows Explorer, it was still there. I never could get rid of it - so that Nero bug was always in there, even though I'd uninstalled everything Nero that I could. Since I couldn't get rid of all Nero again today and therefore could not burn any music CDs, I uninstalled Adaptec and installed Nero, which took me several hours to learn and make work for me. Nero seems to be working fine now. I'm wondering if you know why that Ahead folder doesn't appear in add/remove programs and why I can't delete it from Windows Explorer. Also, I think at least one of my 1998-built 350 mHz PC (IBM compatible) fans might have died, as CDs I put in the D: drive quickly feel hot to the touch. In recording WAVE files of studio masters to the hard drive, if I left the master in the drive for burning of more than one song, the songs kept recording to the hard drive with horrid skips and buzzing. I finally was able to record to hard drive the songs I wanted by taking out the master from D: drive after each song and letting it cool down. Have you ever heard of this? That's all I can think for why attempt after attempt resulted in skips/buzzing. Thanx very much again for your advice! -- MoreGive "Brian A." wrote: Nero software took over total control for being the drive associated, that's a common issue with all apps, last app installed takes the helm. Cannot burn music CDs
Hi,
Thanx for your help. I couldn't just copy my music CD - since I have 2 burners, I had to permanently uninstall the software for one as it caused failure of both burners previously. I don't have a non-burning CD-ROM drive, so all I could do is burn from D: drive to the hard drive. You're right, Nero was not cleanly uninstalled (see my reply to Brian A.). Thanx for clarifying re packet writer; however, I've now installed everything Nero and uninstalled everything Adaptec. Finally got my music burning down smoothly! If you're able to help with my new question in my reply to Brian A., please feel free! Thanx again! -- MoreGive "dadiOH" wrote: moregive wrote: Hi, You MVPs helped me a lot a few months ago. I didn't know WAVE format was more prehistoric and never heard of CDA - what does it stand for? It stands for CD, audio. It is not a file type, it is a Windows acronym used by Explorer to show you what is on an audio CD. Nothing more. When the digital data on an audio CD is written to a file on a computer hard drive, it is given a header to identify it as a wave file (WAV) which *is* a file type. Other than that header, the data on the CD and in the waves are identical. When an audio file on your computer is written to an audio CD, that audio file is decoded (if not already wave) to wave and that data is written. IOW, waves are alive and well. -- dadiOH ____________________________ dadiOH's dandies v3.06... ....a help file of info about MP3s, recording from LP/cassette and tips & tricks on this and that.
