Default Reformatting problem

After reformatting my laptop I noticed that the graphics
where limited to 16 colours and there was no sound.
Someone suggested that my graphics and sound cards needed
to be reinstalled but I don't know which cards I have. Do
I have to open my laptop and find out what cards I have
manually or is there a progam that does it for me? Help!

Your laptop manufacturer will be able to provide the details of the hardware
used in the machine, and may even have the required drivers on their www
site.

Opening the case of a desktop to get hardware information is A-OK--opening a
laptop may be hazardous to its health and yours (they can be a real puzzle).
Check the CDs/floppy disks you got with the laptop and see if there is a
driver disk(s). If so, try installing the correct drivers from it/them. If
you don't have a drivers disk, check the web site as Jeff suggested.
