Default Windows ME Modems

Hi all

I have a WinME system that when I add ANY modem it is not listed in the
available modems list.

I have installed a SiteCom D015 Softmodem which is seen on Com3 and I can
run diags on it and communicate with it using Hyperterminal. However, as it
does not appear on the installed modem list I can not create a new dial up
networking entry.

I have reinstalled multiple times and tried adding a Standard 56k V90 modem
as well. Nothing seems to work, does anyone have any ideas?

Please contact me at

many thanks!

Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager
Remove ALL Modem devices
Reboot to Normal Mode - windows should reinstall the correct drivers

If that doesn't work, change the slot that your modem is plugged into, and
repeat the above - see if that helps

Default Windows ME Modems

Noel,
Sad to say that the tips you gave have not helped, the problem persists and
I am wondering weather I should just reinstall and save some time!

Any modem I add does not get a listing, no listing - no adding of
dial-up-networking. I have tried 2 attached modems, one by cable and one PCI
card. The PCI card can be seen on COM3, and passed diags. The COM port based
modem after install with CD does not get listed nor seen on a COM port.
Indeed now the COM ports are getting confused with COM2 and COM5!!!! I have
added a standard modem from the list (any of them) and no listing. I am not
sure if ME should but it does not give the option to search for a modem on
the COM ports. It seems as though the whole modem system within WinME is up
the creak. One strange thing though is that all the modems I have tried to
add is seen in Device Manager.

I am wondering if there is a registry problem, however I am not sure where
to look. I dont want to reinstall but they may be the only option. If you or
anyone else has any views then please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for all the help so far.

Bob
