Can't get cloned disk to boot
I have installed a new 80GB HDD (recognized as Drive G onto which I have
cloned the OS from Drive C:. However when restarting the PC, the machine will only boot if I leave the original C: in the system. The new disk still has the drive letter G: assigned to it. I have used both PowerQuest Drive Image and Acronis TrueImage to do the cloning but the results are identical. The key is to get the G: drive changed to C: but how? The XP Disk Manager shows the G: drive as the System volume and the original C: drive as a Pagefile. As Oliver Hardy used to say "that's a fine mess we've gotten into!" Gord |

Can't get cloned disk to boot
Did you set the new drive to active? How many hard drives are installed and
how are they partitioned? Are the jumper pins on the drive or drives set correctly? -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "gord" wrote in message ... Can't get cloned disk to boot
If you are using Win XP, you should be asking in an XP group, as the boot files and
methods are totally different in XP. This is a Win98 group. Even if you are dual-booting both OS's, if you are using the XP boot manager, it is an XP issue. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "gord" wrote in message ... Can't get cloned disk to boot
Thanks for your responses. The MS link by Ron lead me to the solution; in
particular the article referenced below. Yes, I am using XP but I couldn't find a specific newsgroup for disk problems. Gord "How to restore the System/Boot Drive letter in Windows" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223188/en-us |
