Default QUIZ - YES G=1

wrote:

I've no idea about that, but I can almost guarantee to provide
some ***////really//// stupid*** answers.

So, the question - to be replied to by replacing "please
participate" in the subject line with a 'YES' or 'NO' - is:

Will this group (and some/all other microsoft.* newsgroups)
still be "here" after that moment in time?

'YES' means the group(s) will continue except people using MS-
controlled or "heavily-MS-influenced" ;-] servers will not be
able to access it/them.

'NO' means it will "disappear" along with all other microsoft.*
groups.

For "bonus points", (don't ask me what that would be), IF the
group(s) continue, will Google Groups also continue to carry
them? (That could be added in the body, I suppose, or by adding
G=1 for yes or G=0 for no, or something.)

I hope I did that right, boss. Did I? Huh? Did I done good?

(For "SUPER-EXTRA bonus points", you can express your opinion on
whether the next release of everyone's favorite browser -
OffByOne - should include a newsreader ;-] )

Shouldn't it execute ActiveX controls?

I dont much care. I only came to this group, v/s other Win98 groups
because this is where there are the most people. If this group dies,
everyone will migrate to alt.windows98. Life will go on. The
discussions will be the same thing, just in a different newsgroup. I
dont care if the NG begins with "microsoft.public", or "alt". It's
what's posted that counts.

Per your other query on why no one is, I will.

This quiz may be a ***////really//// stupid*** idea, but I feel
whatever happens will test the Usenet's supposed
indestructibility Vs. the power of Microsoft, and possibly hint
at future developments. And I am curious about what people think
without having to read a bunch of 200-line-post threads which
from the glances I took, arrive at no conclusions.

So, the question - to be replied to by replacing "please
participate" in the subject line with a 'YES' or 'NO' - is:

Will this group (and some/all other microsoft.* newsgroups)
still be "here" after that moment in time?

Here, as in *on* Microsoft, No. The "bridge" is apparently a temporary
measure to allow access during transition.

Elsewhere?
Not likely nor legal in this form. Use net [Usenet] is still trying to
determine how to handle the change. Looks like it may be
comp.os.{something.something] for groups with sufficient interest [not
likely this OS]. There SHOULD be posts coming shortly per groups
supposedly comparable... alt.windows98 [or whatever it is] is waiting,
and so is likely 98 Guy and will subject you to all of the other trash
"out there".
Some parties think they're going to "carry on" exactly as the present
on their own servers/services, but I don't see that happening or it
won't last long.

For "bonus points", (don't ask me what that would be), IF the
group(s) continue, will Google Groups also continue to carry

Google is anybodies guess, it may or may not have an agreement with
Microsoft, or it may only have Google access, or???? Previously it
appears Google followed what was offered on Microsoft, recently???

(For "SUPER-EXTRA bonus points", you can express your opinion on
whether the next release of everyone's favorite browser -
OffByOne - should include a newsreader ;-] )

Yeah, sure, but then you also bring in JAVA, javascript, ssh, SSL,
etc., unless you only offer text and standard limited access, which
limits the usage and usefulness, and increases the browsers vulnerabilities.

No, it's a guessing game. No one can know what will really
happen.

For "bonus points", (don't ask me what that would be), IF
the group(s) continue, will Google Groups also continue to
carry them? (That could be added in the body, I suppose, or

Very well done.

No, the fact it doesn't do java/activeX or Flash are among its
best features.

Thank you very much for participating.

Since I haven't read everything written, I don't know the
'bridge' is, but understanding of that doesn't seem crucial at
this point.

Elsewhere?

I've had him KF'd for along time.

So you say 'NO'.

I can't decide if they're allies or enemies. Perfect strategy,
whatever they are up to.

Yeah, sure, but then you also bring in JAVA, javascript,
ssh, SSL,

BION, I have never heard of SSH, but OB1 always had SSL. The
lack of other things you mention are among its advantages. It's
a very basic browser to get the /content/, not eye candy,
flicks, and adolescent "web design" contests.

etc., unless you only offer text and standard limited
access, which limits the usage and usefulness, and
increases the browsers vulnerabilities.

How does NOT executing scripts increase vulnerability?

Default QUIZ - DOOMSDAY

So PCR --- Will 98/98SE users be inundated with Gamma Radiation after October
1, 2010 and turn into Smoke like or Hulk like creatures or at the beginning
of 2011 when the last support for 98/98SE dries up from even 3rd party
vendors. I still want Microsoft to print a book on all 98SE kb articles.
Unfortunately, most of the kb articles on Windows 98 Second Edition have
already been removed from the Internet by Microsoft. Please at least grant
me this hope Microsoft for Windows 98 Second Edition if nothing else so I can
continue to easily support 98SE on my side and for any clients that need the
support and don't want to learn more complicated operating systems.
