98SE problems
A couple of basically minor problems, but the kind that become more and more
irritating over time: 1. On bootup, after the screen turns green, I am asked to enter my password. (Just clicking or hitting "enter" will get rid of it and let me go on booting. Don't remember where the option to enter this thing came from (and I may have deleted it since) Any idea how I could get rid of the thing? I'd like to be able to have the computer wake up for a task, but with this waiting for input, can't. 2. I have an icon for Network Neighborhood on my desktop I'd like to get rid of too. It has no "delete" option in "properties." Any ideas? |

98SE problems
1. Go to control panel, network, primary network logon and select Windows
Logon. Go to control panel, passwords, user profiles and ensure the "all user's" box is marked. If you have a password established, go to control panel, passwords, change windows password, type the password in the old box, leave the rest blank and OK your way out. If you have forgotten your password, delete the .pwl file with your user name (mine is ron.pwl); however, be aware that you will lose all passwords stored in the .pwl file. If you do not have a password established or have deleted the .pwl file, when the W95/98 logon screen appears at boot, type a user name only and hit OK. If the logon screen continues to appear and you have Tweak UI installed, go to the Paranoia tab and remove the mark from "clear last user." 2. You can use Tweak UI, desktop tab to remove NN. Or, you can go to control panel, network and add the client: MS Family Logon and once added, delete the Client for MS Networks. Tweak UI is available from: http://www.microsoft.com/NTWorkstati.../NTTweakUI.asp Right-click the TweakUI.inf file and select install. Should a notice appear saying a disk is required, click OK and another screen appears. Click browse, go to the folder containing Tweak, OK and OK. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Felt Lair" wrote in message ... I don't know how to remove the first one once its there, but for the second one, go on the control panel, click "Network", then, if "Client for Microsoft Networks" is chosen as primary network logon, change to "Microsoft family logon", or "Windows logon". This will remove the "Network Neighborhood" icon. . |

The computer will go dark for about 1/2 second, then come back. When the login box appears, click Cancel. The computer will finish booting up. Then, restart it to check. The login dialog box should be gone. Michael J. Benardo . |
