Default WordPad error message

When I try to open a file received as an attachment to e-
mail, I get an error message "This program has performed
an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the
problem persists, contact the vendor" Then, in the Show
Details window, "...caused an invalid page fault in module
MSWRD832.CNV...".

Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks,

Don

refers iirc to wordpad not being able to open documents produced by Word
versions later than word97, goto microsoft and download the free word viewer

Dan has already been supplied the fix.
Please use the same answer. It is correct.
Here is my standard response.

Mswrd832.cnv Error
You are trying to open a document that was created with a late version
of Word.
Wordpad is not a suitable program for opening such files.

You may get a bit more information he
