Windows Explorer Setup Problem with Win98SE
This is an ongoing problem -- I deleted the original thread thinking it was solved....
Opening Windows Explorer on Win98SE... In the past I see a list of folders on the left panel, and subfolders on the right. My PC burped and now I only have the panel on the right. I have tried View Explorer Bar Folders... This toggles between one and two panels, but the left panel is always blank. Also, under Tools Folder Options, I don't see any applicable controls. I have a feeling this is a minor task, but I can't figure it out. Thanks. Claude PS -- Some fine fellow gave me a suggestion on how to correct this but it didn't work and I didn't keep the thread going. |

Windows Explorer Setup Problem with Win98SE
Thanks, Glen, but I'm not comfortable messing with the registry. What
if I reinstall Windows? "glee" wrote in message ... Reinstall Windows? Why? That will not touch that Registry key, so it will not
likely accomplish anything except messing up the rest of your system. You actually should not delete that entire "Main" key....you should only need to delete the ExplorerBar value. If you send me a valid email address, I can send you a .reg file that you can run, which will delete that value without you having to go into the Registry editor at all. [] I've sometimes had this one after a burp (I like the new technical term!), and more often than not I've found that the other pane _is_ there - just shrunk to zero width. And finding the spot (or, I presume, column, really) where the cursor turns to the double-headed arrow is really difficult - but not impossible. (It's, obviously, somewhere in the left edge of the window. I _think_ I've had the problem the other way round, too, i. e. lost the right pane.) -- J. P. Gilliver | Tel.: 01634 203298 |
