At the "BIOS Update Disk - InstallShield Wizard" box, click Next. Several
setup boxes will briefly appear as the files are extracted and the notebook
model is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close
automatically. The BIOS Update Disk Setup will launch.
At the "Information" window, insert a blank 3½ floppy diskette to the floppy
disk drive (A and click OK.

so its not asking for a "storage area" as you wrote.

Does this have anything to do with your previous posts in this thread ?

Ive checked with Sony and they agree its possible.

Guess theres only way to find out.

As for the USB, as long as it is compatible to read bootable disks.

So to boot from a USB port this would have to be an option on the BIOS, right?

In ,
Sean had this to say:

Sorry to just jump in here but, if your BIOS allows it, try to enter setup
on boot and do a few things. First enable USB Legacy support if it's not
already enabled. Second make sure your USB jump drive type device is plugged
in, check to see if setup sees it as a hard drive. Does it? If it does then
you should be okay. What's it calling it? Drive 2 or some-such? Good because
that's what we'll be using here. Next check and see if you can enable your
computer to check that drive in an order similar to this: A; CD ROM; HDD 2;
HDD 1. Done? Good. Now make/copy a startup disk. Take the whole contents of
that disk and put it at the root level of that drive. (I think that was your
original goal for this operation but I can't be sure.) Don't put the
contents into any folder, just go in through the OS and copy/paste the files
to the root level of the drive. If it's drive F: then the contents would
simply go in F:\ okay? Now make sure that the stick is in place. Remove any
other disks from the CD or Floppy that might be bootable or cause problems
when you try to boot. Reboot. The computer should, if all goes well, look
for bootable information first in the floppy drive, then in the CD drive,
then in the USB drive, and finally in the regular C: drive (unless, of
course, you've labeled C: as something else but we'll hope that you haven't)
and when it finds bootable content it will boot to the USB drive. Err... I
hope... I should add that this is theory and will only work if your hardware
and BIOS support this sort of stuff.
