Since running a system restore I have had a load of
issues. Symantec says I have to uninstall/reinstall NIS. I
have been getting the following error messages so what do
I do first and how do I do it?
1. IExplore has caused an error in Kernel32.dll at
08f:bff8elad
2. Application error: SUWIN caused a general protection
fault in module VERX.DLL at 0002:24AE
3. Internet Explorer script error line 56 char 2 Error:
automation server can't create object code 0
4. NAV has encounter4ed an internal program error
5. File name symEvent (01) + 0001091E Error:
OE:0028:C007DD16
6. The IPHLPAPI.DLL file cannot start

The message #1 comes up all the time, the rest have only
appeared oncc. I did correct a WINSPOOL.DRV error
following your advice (see message earlier)

I need access to Internet Explorer in order to foolow
symantecs directions to uninstall NIS because add/remove
program did not work and I have to download NIS to
reinstall because that is how I purchased it.

Un/Reinstalling NIS has NOTHING to do with reinstall ME over itself - which
is what you appear to be doing from the text of the second error you quote!

Rather than posting part of the story if you want help you need to give
precise accurate details of what you are doing and what you have done. None
of the errors you have posted has anything to do with system restore but tell
me and others that amongst other things you attempted to reinstall Win Me over
itself and in doing so broke even more of your system than before.

My advice now would be to recover your data, format your hard disk and then
clean install Win Me.

My son admits to trying to use the Win ME cd to solve the
problem. He says that the install did not complete. I will
back up my "c" drive using a program called NTI Back up
Now. Should I do a 'drive image" or "file level" back up?
because I need to format the HD and re-install Win ME.
Also I want to change to Win XP...do I first reinstall win
ME and then upgrade to win XP? Or can I deep six win me
and start new with XP Thanks

That rather depends on whether you have a full or upgrade version of XP. If a
full version, no problem. If an upgrade CD, then again no problem if you have
a Win Me CD you can insert into the CD-ROM when requested so as to verify your
entitlement to use the upgrade version. However if you have an OEM Restore or
Recovery CD (and I don't think that that is the case from your post) then you
would have to first install Win Me and then upgrade to XP although even then
you can choose to clean install XP when "upgrading".

Best of luck with your upgrade,
