Can't Restart to DOS after USB card reader installed
Hi, I have a problem of exit Windows 98 and back to 16-bit real DOS mode
after the USB card reader installed. When I try to do that, Windows 98 close all programs and leave one item "Winoldap" at the task list. After about 30 seconds, the item appears to be "Winoldap (not responding)". Windows 98 hangs at Windows stage without going to DOS. The only way to make to system continue is to press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and force the system to reboot. Then I uninstall the driver from Add/Remove problem. However, it can't solve the problem of can't restart to DOS. There is no problem on startup, restart windows and shutdown, but it just can't go back to DOS from Windows. A boot log file was created to check the problem. However, it can't help me to solve any problem. Next, I press F8 to step and step enter Windows. After servel times, I discovered that the problem was come from the device drvie "ndis.vxd". If this driver was not load, I can Restart to DOS from Windows without any problems. However, this driver is necessary for internet and firewall applications and can't be skipped. Also, it should not be the main driver to casue such problem since this driver was loaded and I can restart to DOS before. I take a look to the MSKB, it has the similar problem but it can't apply to my case. I also tried the fix provided by MSKB, but it can't solve the problem. I hope someone can help me, thanks! |
