networking error message: "Not enough memory is available. Quit some programs" ??

Hi all,

I have a six station LAN, all win98se machindes except one with
windows XP Pro to which I recently added a second 120G drive, each
drive is partitioned with a 20G active partition, and 2 - 50G logical
partitions. but since doing this I can no longer connect from any of
the win98 machines to these drives, I get the error: "Not enough
memory is available. Quit some programs.' I've quit everything
except explorer and systray and still get the same error, so is there
a way to access these drives?

I have them shared on the XP machine, set to only read from but not
allowing the networked machines to modify files on those drives.

I'm wondering if is has something to do with the NTFS as opposed to
the FAT32, although I was able to connect and access them before when
I only had a 6G C: drive (one physical drive) and the 120G drive with
the three partitions.

Is it just something I forgot to do, or is it a limitation of the
win98 O/S?

Hi niteowl,

Give this a try and see if it resolves the problem..........

On the XP computer, open the registry editor (StartRun, key in regedit then
click on OK or hit ENTER). Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\lanmanserver\parameters
In the righthand pane, locate and double-click on the IRPStackSize value
(if the IRPStackSize value does not exist, right-click in the right-hand
pane, select New then DWORD Value and key in IRPStackSize as name for the
new value.......double-click on this new value of IRPStackSize)
Click in the radio button beside Decimal and modify the amount in the Value
data field to 15, then click on OK.
Close the registry editor, restart, see if you can now access the shares.
If the problem persists, increase the value (recommended to increase in
increments of 3). The maximum value is 50.

That did it, the value was set to 11, changed it to 15, and it worked
as before... :-)
